Shawnee Public Schools Hosts Tribal Consultation with Local Districts and Tribes

Shawnee Public Schools recently hosted a Tribal Consultation in partnership with Tecumseh Public Schools and McLoud Public Schools, bringing together Indian Education programs and local tribal leaders for a meaningful day of connection and collaboration.

The morning started with a performance by student dancers, who presented a Traditional Flag Song. Justin Neely, Director of Language for the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, offered the invocation, setting a thoughtful tone for the day. READ MORE.

SPS Launches New Student ID Bus Tracking System for Elementary Students

Shawnee Public Schools is excited to announce the launch of a new student ID system aimed at enhancing safety and providing real-time tracking for elementary students who ride district buses.

Upon return from spring break, elementary students began using secure ID cards to scan on and off when they board and exit the bus. The software, Tyler Drive from Tyler Technologies, is a cutting-edge system that ensures that parents and guardians have instant access to their child’s bus activity through the My Ride K-12 app. With the app, families can see exactly when and where their child scans on and off of the bus, providing peace of mind and up-to-the-minute information. SMS Functional Skills Students Visit Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art

Our Shawnee Middle School Functional Skills students had a special opportunity to experience Mosaic Mondays at the museum—an exclusive visit on a day the museum is typically closed.

We are so grateful to the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art team for opening their doors and hearts to our students for this inspiring, hands-on art experience!

Sequoyah Elementary Students Take Trip Through Time

Sequoyah Elementary Shawnee’s 5th grade Wax Museum was a trip through time! We got to shake hands with George Washington, chat with John and Abigail Adams, meet Lord Baltimore, listen to wisdom from Ben Franklin, and hear the midnight ride tale straight from Paul Revere himself!

The gym was filled with history, creativity, and some seriously impressive costumes. Way to go, 5th grade—we’re still starstruck!

Horace Mann Offers Will Rogers-themed Family Reading Night

Horace Mann’s Will Rogers-themed Family Reading Night was a huge success! Families gathered for an evening filled with books, laughter, and a little cowboy fun. Students and parents enjoyed stories inspired by the legendary Will Rogers, tried their hand at a little "ropin'," and celebrated the joy of reading together.
